Last year, Apple unveiled new hearing health functionalities for its AirPods Pro 2 wireless earbuds. Due to regulatory approvals being necessary, these features have been introduced gradually across different regions. Starting today, AirPods users in four additional countries can now access these features.
Apple expands AirPods Pro 2 hearing health capabilities to more regions
According to Apple’s confirmation, the hearing health features for AirPods Pro 2 are now accessible to users in Australia, Brazil, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia. Users can benefit from two specific functionalities available with their AirPods.
The Hearing Test feature allows users to complete a test in approximately five minutes using their AirPods Pro 2 paired with an iPhone or iPad that runs iOS 18. After finishing the test, users receive a summary of their results, detailing the hearing levels in each ear along with personalized hearing health advice.
For users experiencing mild to moderate hearing loss, the AirPods Pro 2 can also function in Hearing Aid mode. This mode utilizes the test results to generate a customized hearing profile, effectively turning the earbuds into a clinical-grade hearing aid. Apple states, “This helps users engage better in conversations and stay connected with their surroundings and loved ones.”
This personalized hearing profile is automatically applied to music, movies, games, and phone calls across all devices without requiring any adjustments.
The newly introduced hearing health features are accessible within the AirPods settings on iOS. It is important to note that these features are exclusive to AirPods Pro 2, including both Lightning and USB-C models. Apple indicates that an AirPods firmware update may be necessary to activate the features in the mentioned countries.
