With just three months remaining until the upcoming WWDC, where Apple is set to introduce iOS 19, exciting rumors surface. This upcoming update is expected to be substantial, bringing a fresh design to the iPhone and iPad operating systems. However, according to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple has more in store, including a live translation feature for AirPods.
Live Translation Feature for AirPods with iOS 19
Mark Gurman, citing sources privy to the developments, indicates that this feature will facilitate real-time translation of in-person conversations between different languages. It will be made available for existing AirPods models as part of the upcoming iOS 19 update.
For example, if someone who speaks English is conversing with another individual speaking a different language, the iPhone will utilize the microphones in the AirPods to automatically translate the spoken words. This process will happen in real-time, enabling seamless communication.
It remains uncertain whether this innovative feature will be limited to the latest AirPods Pro or if it will also be accessible for previous models. Last year, with the launch of iOS 18, Apple introduced new hearing health functionalities for the second-generation AirPods Pro.
Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that Apple has ambitious plans for its operating systems. These plans include a redesign aimed at achieving greater consistency across iOS, macOS, and visionOS interfaces. Additionally, Apple intends to “streamline how users navigate and control their devices.”
Regarding the AirPods, the company is contemplating the incorporation of cameras into its wireless earbuds. These cameras could enhance artificial intelligence capabilities, like Visual Intelligence, thereby eliminating the need to pull out an iPhone from one’s pocket. However, the development of these rumored AirPods with integrated cameras is still in the early stages.
