Apple Guides Students on Persuading Parents to Buy a Mac

Update, June 21: Apple has taken down the video from YouTube for reasons that remain unclear.

The original article, published on June 20, follows.

This week, Apple launched its annual Back to School promotion, providing free AirPods and various accessories with any new Mac or iPad purchase.

As the Back to School season gears up, Apple has released a lighthearted video aimed at college students, advising them on “how to persuade your parents to buy you a Mac.”

The seven-minute clip was uploaded to Apple’s YouTube channel today, showcasing incoming college freshmen rehearsing their pitch to convince their parents to choose a Mac over a PC for their college needs.

In the video, the presenter states:

“You can’t put a price on a healthy spine. One of the key factors impacting spine health in teenagers is, surprise, the weight of their school bags. The MacBook Air weighs only 2.7 pounds. Surely, your parents care about your spine, right?”

Further, the presenter adds:

“In conclusion, you can invest in a MacBook Air for $899, or you can opt for a PC, but then you’ll need to purchase antivirus software, manual backup tools, a protective case, a guard dog to fend off your roommate, an external battery pack…it’s outrageous.”

Apple has gone beyond just presenting the video. On its website, you can find a downloadable “Parent Presentation” that outlines “45 compelling reasons why a Mac is crucial for college.” This presentation is available for free in PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Keynote formats.
