Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared in the Power On newsletter that Apple still plans to release additional features for iOS 26. Although not unveiled at WWDC, these features have been the subject of rumors and are expected to roll out in the next few months.
The two features yet to be announced include real-time translation through AirPods and the ability to synchronize captive Wi-Fi connections across all Apple devices. The former would enable users to engage in live conversations with individuals speaking different languages, with translations provided instantly via AirPods. This would align with other translation capabilities rumored for iOS 26.
The latter improvement would simplify the experience of using public Wi-Fi, eliminating the need to re-enter login credentials for public hotspots, like those in cafes and hotels, across the entire Apple ecosystem. Once logged in on one device, it would automatically sync with all others.
Gurman had previously reported on these features ahead of WWDC, but they were not part of the keynote. This is attributed to Apple’s strategy to refrain from announcing features months ahead of their availability:
During WWDC, Apple was cautious not to disclose any features not nearly ready for release (either in the initial version of iOS 26 or in subsequent updates). The company aimed to avoid a repeat of WWDC 2024, which saw several features — including significant technologies — delayed for months or remain unfulfilled.
According to Gurman, both features should be available this year, likely in the October release of iOS 26.1 or in the December update of iOS 26.2, unless they are incorporated during the beta phase.
