Apple is set to redesign the MacBook Pro next year: Here’s what to anticipate

Speculations indicate that Apple is set to revamp the MacBook Pro in 2026, which will mark five years since the last redesign we’re familiar with today. We’ll explore three primary rumors associated with this upgraded MacBook Pro.

OLED Display

Following its debut in the iPad Pro in 2024, Apple is expected to introduce OLED display technology to the MacBook Pro for the first time with the 2026 redesign. This upgrade promises enhanced brightness, improved contrast ratios, and richer colors for the MacBook Pro range.

Moreover, as reported by TheElec, Apple plans to incorporate the same Tandem OLED technology used in the iPad Pro:

The OLED MacBook Air is anticipated to feature a standard single-stack display, unlike the more advanced Two-Stack Tandem displays we’ve mentioned for the MacBook Pro.

Single-stack displays consist of one red, green, and blue layer, while two-stack tandem OLEDs include an additional RGB layer. Stacking two layers increases the screen’s brightness and longevity.

In its shift to OLED, Apple may also replace the notch with a smaller camera hole cutout. According to Omdia, this alteration is described as a “rounded corner + hole cut.”

The report does not clarify if the cutout will resemble a single hole punch or something akin to the Dynamic Island on the iPhone. Nevertheless, a less obtrusive cutout is expected in the MacBook Pro display with the upcoming redesign.

Thinner Design

According to Bloomberg, Apple is looking to adopt a new, sleeker design with the 2026 MacBook Pro. Specific details are sparse, leaving ambiguities regarding whether the overall chassis design will undergo changes:

While Apple has continually upgraded the device with new chips and internal enhancements, a true overhaul of the MacBook Pro is unlikely until 2026. The original schedule aimed for a 2025 release with a thinner design and upgraded OLED screens; however, delays regarding display technology pushed back the timeline.

Cutting-Edge M6 Chip

Apple is also expected to launch the M6 series of chips in this redesigned MacBook Pro. The M6 is anticipated to be the first Apple Silicon generation utilizing TSMC’s 2nm technology, alongside the A20 chip for the iPhone.

As is customary, we can expect M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max variants for the MacBook Pro, available in both 14-inch and 16-inch models. With the new process node, substantial performance and efficiency enhancements should be anticipated.
