Apple Unveils Innovative Immersive Concert Experience for Apple Vision Pro

A new “Apple Immersive concert experience” is set to debut for Apple Vision Pro users. This Friday, Apple will launch “Metallica,” which features 180-degree Immersive Video footage filmed in Mexico City during Metallica’s M72 World Tour.

The concert film will showcase complete performances of three Metallica classics: “Whiplash,” “One,” and “Enter Sandman.” Apple promises that Vision Pro users will get “unprecedented access” to James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo—viewing from positions as close as the renowned Snake Pit and broad angles capturing the band’s vibrant stage presence.

For the Metallica concert recording, Apple designed a “custom stage setup featuring 14 Apple Immersive Video cameras,” utilizing a combination of stabilized mounts, cable-suspended angles, and remote-controlled camera dolly systems that roamed the stage.

“Metallica” will be available free of charge for Apple Vision Pro users starting Friday, March 14 in the TV app. Apple also highlights additional Immersive Video content on the way for Apple Vision Pro, including new episodes of the series “Adventure” and “Boundless,” along with previously announced content like “VIP: Yankee Stadium” and “Bono: Stories of Surrender.”

The latest Apple Immersive Video launches on March 14, showcasing beloved songs from one of the world’s top bands, also allowing customers to enjoy a preview at Apple Store locations.

A new Apple Immersive concert experience, Metallica, is arriving on Apple Vision Pro this Friday, March 14. Filmed in Mexico City during the sold-out finale of the second year of the M72 World Tour, Metallica for Apple Vision Pro features full performances of three iconic tracks—“Whiplash,” “One,” and “Enter Sandman”—exclusively captured using Apple Immersive Video. This unparalleled storytelling format is unique to Apple Vision Pro, delivering ultra-high-resolution 180-degree video combined with Spatial Audio for an immersive experience with James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo—from the infamous Snake Pit to panoramic views of the dynamic performance.

Customers can schedule an Apple Vision Pro demo at their local Apple Store to engage with the magic of spatial computing and experience a snippet of Metallica, featuring a complete rendition of “Whiplash,” available starting this Friday. Additionally, a new EP titled M72 World Tour: Mexico City, featuring a Spatial Audio experience, will be accessible on Apple Music this Friday.

“Apple Immersive Video revolutionizes the way audiences experience storytelling, and we are excited to partner with Metallica on this groundbreaking concert,” said Tor Myhren, Apple’s Vice President of Marketing Communications. “With Metallica on Apple Vision Pro, you feel as though you’re right there—front row, behind the scenes, and even performing with one of the biggest bands in history.”

To capture the band’s full concert experience from various angles and the electrifying atmosphere of over 65,000 dedicated Metallica fans, Apple constructed a custom stage layout with 14 Apple Immersive Video cameras, incorporating a blend of stabilized cameras, cable-suspended rigs, and remotely operated camera dolly systems that navigated the stage.

Lars Ulrich, Metallica’s drummer, discussed the Apple Immersive concert experience during a conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, focusing on the band’s commitment to its fans and the upcoming leg of the M72 World Tour, which will take place at SXSW 2025. Their full dialogue will be available on the SXSW YouTube channel.
