Succeeding the Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro, Xiaomi is here with its new flagship killers Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro.

Xiaomi Mi’s latest launches come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with an experience of 5G. Having a much larger battery, haptics, and improved camera than its predecessor, Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro comes with a unique hole-punch display.

Both the devices have a 144Hz display with a rapid rate of refresh. After tuning the color and texture of its LCD display, Xiaomi claims that its latest flagship killers have what it takes to challenge the superior quality of the AMOLED display.

Mi 10T series boasts of a 108-megapixel camera with 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 5-megapixel macro lens. The front camera is 20-megapixel and has a battery strength of 5000mAh which supports a 33W fast charge. With RAM and storage supporting both 6, 8/128, and 8/256 variants, it comes with a USB type C port.

Comparing Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro To its Predecessor

Comparing Mi 10T Pro’s Brightness

Unlike the AMOLED which operates through lighting up of each pixel, LCD, for its light source, uses its backlight. Comprising of several layers, LCD suffers from its brightness when compared to AMOLED or OLED displays.

According to Xiaomi, Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro use LCD where its nits vary from a range of 450-600 under strong sunlight as compared to the AMOLED screen of Mi 9T Pro. After conducting several brightness tests on the two devices it was found that although the features of both the devices are fairly similar, Mi 10T Pro still falls behind its predecessor’s brightness range of 430-650 nits AMOLED screen. However, the color uniformity and temperature in Mi 10T Pro’s LCD display is better in comparison with the Mi 9T Pro.

Comparing Mi 10T Pro’s Contrast

It is seen that the ratio of contrast is higher in the AMOLED when compared to LCD. It is a ratio of the brightness produced by the brightest pixel to the darkest. AMOLED boasts of showcasing the real black color as it produces it by turning off all the pixels. Thus, AMOLED when compared to LCD shows a higher contrast.  This allows the AMOLED user greater readability in low-light conditions as the screen can grow much darker than an LCD screen.

Having said this, Mi 10T pro matches the contrast of the 9T pro although it exhibits a much lower ratio of contrast (1500 to 1) as compared to 9T’s 6000 to 1 ratio. After several tests, it was found that Mi 10T Pro even in low-light conditions, provides a much clearer difference between colors. However if we talk about the content of HDR, Mi 9T Pro tends to do better than Mi 10 T Pro because black areas on the LCD display turn grey and the display becomes blurred.

Mi 9T Pro’s higher rate of contrast allows shades of brighter colors to stand out. The darker colors seem to be extremely prominent. Mi 9T Pro would be able to capture fireworks or a lighted-up cityscape in a much better way in comparison to the Mi 10T Pro screen.

Comparing Mi 10T Pro’s Color Saturation

AMOLED screens are known for their high saturation of colors. Xiaomi focuses more on the accuracy of colors rather than saturation and Mi 10T Pro ensures 96% NTSC colors and 98% DCI-P3 colors. Apart from this, Mi 10T Pro has a 0.63 value of Delta E.

When compared to the AMOLED screen of Mi 9T Pro, Mi 10T Pro’s LCD display produces a much larger difference of surrounding colors.  Owing to the AMOLED sensors, the colors of Mi 9T Pro seems artificial and oversaturated. It might look very attractive but the colors are not accurate. This is evident when a picture is taken with its camera or nature is displayed on its screen.

Comparing Mi 10T Pro’s Refresh Rate

When it comes to the rate of refresh, Mi 10T Pro takes a considerable advantage over its predecessor.  In comparison to 9T Pro’s 60Hz rate of refresh, Mi 10T Pro boasts of a display of 144Hz. This essentially means that the device refreshes its pixels every 7ms. The 9T Pro takes 16.7ms to refresh its pixels owing to a display of 60Hz. This makes for an amazing gaming experience and a smoother transition of animations and repeated refreshing of the display in Mi 10T Pro. This essentially means a gamer can play a high resource-demanding game at 144 FPS without encountering any lag.

Mi 10 T Pro further comes with AdaptiveSync. This means that its display not only supports different rates of refresh but also is able to adjust itself to the rate of the content which is displayed. The rate of refresh ranges from 30Hz to 144Hz. As a result, Mi 10T Pro is able to do away with the problems of screen distortion or lags.

AdaptiveSync is a major reason why Xiaomi has developed the LCD display rather than continuing with AMOLED. Adjusting to optimum rates of refresh when switching between different applications is extremely necessary and this easier to achieve in LCD displays rather than AMOLED. Mi 10T Pro also holds an upper-hand over the OnePlus 8T on the fact that despite having a rate of refresh at 120HZ, the OnePlus 8T can adjust to the rate of refresh ranges from 60Hz to 120 Hz.  However, this AdaptiveSync feature is very different from NVIDIA’s Active Sync. NVIDIA’s Active Sync is able to alter the refresh rate of the display with the FPS rate in real-time. This is however not possible on any other device except for the first generation of Razer sets which was released two years back.

Conclusion

With a 144Hz display with Adaptive Sync, Mi 10T is a very good choice if one is looking for a premium gaming experience. Mi 10T Pro is a definite upgrade on Mi 9T pro when it comes to displaying. However, it lags behind its predecessor in terms of contrast and brightness. In order to make up for these issues, Mi 10T pro has focused more on the accuracy of colors, fast and smooth experience for its users.
