Emergency SOS on Apple Watch Ultra Aided in Ocean Rescue
Yesterday, Apple Australia released a new video showcasing a rescue aided by the Apple Watch Ultra.
On July 13, 2024, Rick Shearman was swimming near Byron Bay when the situation turned perilous.
He found himself caught in rough waters and ended up drifting 1.6km (approximately 1 mile) from the shore.
Utilizing the Emergency SOS feature on his Apple Watch Ultra, he called for help. This is achieved by pressing and holding the side button on the Apple Watch and using the Emergency Call slider.
As shown in the video recreation, Shearman was fatigued, experiencing cramps, and unable to locate the beach. If left unaided, he might have faced drowning.
However, due to his call, a team of emergency responders successfully located and rescued him.
Later this year, Apple is anticipated to introduce satellite connectivity with the Apple Watch Ultra 3.
It’s likely that following this update, we will hear even more inspiring stories of rescues from Ultra users in the future.
