Despite Australia being on track on Tuesday to record its lowest one-day rise in new COVID-19 infections in a month, the state of Tasmania announced that its borders will remain closed until at December 1.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said restrictions would stay in place until at least December “to allow sufficient time for the COVID-19 situation in Victoria and the threat posed to other states to be clearly controlled”.
(*1*) he added.
Last week, the Northern Territory said that its borders would be closed for at least 18 months.
Market reaction
AUD/USD is little affected by the above announcement, keeping its consolidative mode intact below the weekly highs of 0.7229. The spot, currently, trades at 0.7214, modestly flat on the day.
