Britney Spears has been slammed for body shaming her dancers after releasing a new music video. The singer, 39, showcased her toned physique in the clip, while her shirtless male dancers were seen covering up their bodies with towels or robes.

Spears’ fans were quick to point out the differences between the two sets of performers on Twitter and Instagram, believing that she was sending a “weird message” about what women should look like. The singer and actress have been posting videos of herself pole dancing on Instagram this week.

She also posted a video of her performing on stage at the Broadway musical “Chicago” last Thursday. That’s right, the singer who once had a hit song called “Oops! I Did It Again” has been reposting videos of herself performing on a pole to her Instagram page with over 2 million likes from fans.

Britney Spears Called Out By Fans

Britney Spears is known for her sexy dance moves and wide leg stance as she performed during her Las Vegas residency at The Axis theater from 2014-2019. She also made headlines when she twerked with Snoop Dogg for the popular song “Drop It Like It’s Hot” in 2002 before going into retirement following an emotional breakdown in 2007 when she was hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation after being charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run after striking a paparazzo while driving under the influence (DUI).

“Love is the most important thing in the world,” she wrote. “If you love someone, set them free.”

The quote is from The Shawshank Redemption and is about letting go of your past fears, but Britney Spears’ fans felt that she was body shaming her dancers. One person commented: “You should be ashamed of yourself.”

Another said: “Wow! I thought you were better than this!” That post garnered over 2 million likes from fans, which is a lot for any page. She’s a good dancer with a good body, sure, but she also has many young fans who look up to her as a role model and have likely seen the way she posts about herself on social media.

This is not okay.

And she received some backlash for it: “I cannot believe @BritneySpears is body-shaming people in 2019,” one person wrote on Twitter. “She should be ashamed of herself.”
