CrossOver 25 Launches, Introducing Red Dead Redemption 2 and More for macOS

For Mac gamers, CrossOver is a well-known platform that enables running Windows applications seamlessly on macOS and Linux. The app’s developer, CodeWeavers, has launched CrossOver 25, introducing a variety of improvements, including support for additional games such as Red Dead Redemption 2.

What’s New in CrossOver 25

The developers share that CrossOver 25 encompasses over 5,000 updates aimed at enhancing compatibility for numerous applications and games on macOS and Linux. This upgrade is built upon Wine 10.0, featuring improved HiDPI support for Retina displays and updated Vulkan drivers.

Mac users will benefit from a revamped configuration system allowing for a more straightforward gaming experience “out of the box,” eliminating the need for additional modifications or game-specific CrossTies. Titles like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 are now playable without needing patches. Furthermore, CrossOver 25 supports multiplayer options in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.

A significant highlight of CrossOver 25 is its support for Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2, which now functions on Macs. Additional games supported in this version include Street Fighter 6, Need for Speed Heat, Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition, Teardown, Age of Wonders 4, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and The Last of Us Part 1.

This version also includes DXMT, a Metal-based adaptation of Direct3D 11. Users can select from DXMT, wined3d, DXVK, and D3DMetal, depending on what suits their needs best. The developers emphasize that DXMT delivers improved performance, especially on lower-spec Macs.

In the previous release, CrossOver 24, CodeWeavers enhanced compatibility for executing 32-bit applications and games on macOS.

The price for CrossOver for Mac is $64, but a free trial is available here.
