Didn’t receive your Social Security payment today? Possible reasons include processing issues, changes in information, suspension, or delays from the SSA office.

Social Security payments are scheduled for beneficiaries in Group 3 of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) classification of retirees. The SSA has confirmed that there will be no delays on their end concerning these payments. Payments for Group 3 beneficiaries were due on April 16, but if you haven’t received yours yet and are eligible, here’s what you should consider:

Report a missing payment

Check with your bank to see if any pending payments are on their way to your account. If not, reach out to the SSA at 800-772-1213 or visit your nearest office. They will review your application and provide information about any payment delays.

Here are some common reasons your payment might not have appeared in your bank account yet:

Your Social Security benefits application hasn’t been processed

If you’ve applied for benefits, the SSA will need some time to process your application before payments commence. Expect a letter in the mail within about 30 days, indicating your anticipated start date for receiving benefits.

According to the SSA, over 80% of new applicants receive their first payment within two weeks, so if you’re uncertain, you can check the status of your benefits on your My Social Security account at https://www.ssa.gov/myaccount/.

Your banking details have changed

If you’ve moved or changed your banking information, the SSA will not be aware of this until you notify them, which could lead to payment delays.

You may have had your benefits suspended

Your Social Security benefits can be suspended if you exceed the earnings limit or are incarcerated for over 30 days. This could prevent you from receiving checks.

The Social Security offices are facing delays

The office responsible for processing benefit payments might face technical difficulties causing delays. You may want to contact your local SSA branch for more information regarding these delays.
