(WJW) — A limited time remains for some taxpayers to claim the $1,400 stimulus payment they were eligible for but did not receive in 2021.
The IRS announced toward the close of 2024 that approximately 1 million taxpayers who missed their stimulus payments would either receive a check in the mail or see the funds directly deposited into their bank accounts.
Per a press release from the IRS, around $2.4 billion was anticipated to be distributed in December, and in most instances, payments would be received by late January, either to the bank account detailed on the taxpayer’s 2023 tax return or to the address on file.
The special payments were intended for individuals who filed a 2021 tax return but failed to fill out the Recovery Rebate Credit section or reported it as $0 while being eligible, as previously noted by Nexstar.
However, individuals who did not file their 2021 tax returns will not receive their $1,400 checks automatically. Instead, they must file their returns before the April 15 deadline, per IRS guidelines.
The payment amounts vary, but the maximum entitlement per individual is $1,400.
Furthermore, the IRS revealed that over 1 million individuals nationwide have unclaimed refunds from the 2021 tax year.
