Last week at WWDC 2025, Apple introduced iOS 26. While the spotlight was on Liquid Glass and iPadOS, there are several smaller features aimed at iPhone users that many will appreciate. Let’s explore these updates.
Easier Custom Ringtones
This feature is definitely long overdue. For the first time in 18 years, iPhone users can set custom ringtones directly from iOS, without needing GarageBand or iTunes.
After downloading an audio file, you can now easily set it as a ringtone via the share sheet.
New Calling Features
Two new features have arrived to enhance call management on your iPhone. The first is Call Screening, which automatically answers calls from unknown numbers and inquires about their purpose in the background. If it’s a genuine call, your phone will start ringing.
Additionally, there’s Hold Assist. This feature allows your phone to handle calls while you’re on hold, eliminating the need for you to listen to hold music. You’ll be notified when a live agent is available.
Polls in Messages
Creating polls in iMessage group chats used to require third-party apps or simple tapbacks. With iOS 26, you can now create polls natively and allow others to vote easily.
Introducing AutoMix in Apple Music
Apple Music has introduced a fantastic feature called AutoMix. It enhances transitions between songs by matching beats and modifying certain elements for a seamless listening experience. You can learn more about AutoMix here.
Additionally, Apple Music now includes Lyrics Translation, making it easier to understand songs in foreign languages.
Introducing Adaptive Power Mode
Leading up to WWDC 25, there were rumors about an intelligent battery management mode. Now, with iOS 26, you can help extend your iPhone’s battery life using Adaptive Power Mode.
This feature makes “small performance adjustments” to enhance battery longevity. Your display may dim more frequently, and your device might run slightly slower when full performance isn’t necessary. Furthermore, Low Power Mode will activate consistently at 20% battery instead of merely prompting you.
Ideally, Adaptive Power Mode learns from your habits to make decisions that align with your usage patterns, all without noticeable disruption. In addition, your iPhone can now provide estimates on the time required for battery charging.
Conclusion
In summary, iOS 26 is a significant update. While the Liquid Glass redesign may capture most attention, this year’s release is genuinely filled with impressive features.
Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that the camera app now includes a notification to prompt users to clean their camera lens whenever it becomes smudged. This should help reduce the number of poor-quality photos taken and raise awareness about lens cleanliness—definitely a valuable addition.
