Instagram appears to be on the verge of fulfilling a popular user request: the addition of a built-in repost button for the main Feed. Here’s a look at how it might operate.
Not the First Time, but Possibly the Last?
If you have a sharp recall, you may remember that Instagram began testing reposting features back in 2022. Recently, many users have spotted the functionality appearing in their accounts once more.
According to initial reports and confirmed screenshots (which Meta has verified for TechCrunch), users will have the ability to repost both their original content and posts from others.
Previously, the only official way to share someone else’s post was by adding it to your Story. To bypass this limitation, many users have turned to third-party applications or simply taken screenshots.
While an official repost button may not completely eliminate issues with content copying and misattribution, it could significantly assist original creators in receiving due credit, enhancing their reach and visibility in the process.
Instagram Steps Up to Face Competition
Considering the importance of repost buttons on competing platforms and Meta’s increasing competitive pressures, it’s not surprising that Instagram is finally taking this step.
The platform has also confirmed plans for an app exclusive to Instagram and will soon allow users to customize their feeds beyond the standard chronological format.
As with any of Instagram’s testing phases, there’s currently no definitive timeline for a full launch. However, this feels more promising than previous attempts.
