According to a recent article from The Information, Instagram is developing an iPad app. Yes, it’s true: after 15 long years, Instagram is finally creating a dedicated application for the iPad.
A headline that deserves a ‘finally’
As per the report:
An employee reported that Instagram is also working on a version of the app specifically tailored for iPads, which could enhance usage of the platform. Currently, iPad users can only access the iPhone version, which appears zoomed-in on their devices, leading to a subpar experience!
The article also discusses how Meta aims to boost Instagram’s usage amid the ongoing competition from TikTok.
Over the years, Instagram has provided various reasons for not having an iPad app. In 2021, Instagram head Adam Mosseri mentioned that while an iPad app “would be nice,” it wasn’t a priority since there were many projects to handle and limited resources. The following year, he reiterated:
It’s still just not a large enough audience to prioritize. I hope we can tackle it one day, but for now, we’re focused on other major initiatives. I refer to these as “finally features.” These include items like dark mode support, scheduled posts, an iPad app, and the ability to delete a single photo from a carousel, among others.
No updates yet on whether we’ll see a Threads app for iPad before 2037.
