iOS 18.4.1 Set to Resolve Annoying CarPlay Issues

After the launch of iOS 18.4 earlier this month, numerous iPhone users encountered various connectivity issues with CarPlay. In response, Apple has now issued iOS 18.4.1, which aims to address at least one of the identified CarPlay issues…

iOS 18.4.1 and CarPlay

To recap, users reported multiple CarPlay issues following the update to iOS 18.4. Among the problems were challenges with wireless connectivity, the Music app, and second screen integration, affecting vehicles from brands like Honda, Mazda, Audi, and Ford. As noted previously:

Importantly, several users faced significant connectivity challenges with CarPlay in iOS 18.4. One user mentioned that their iPhone kept “connecting and disconnecting repeatedly” while using wireless CarPlay. Another reported that iOS 18.4 had “broken” their wireless CarPlay connection, making it “unstable.” A Honda owner stated it “required plugging and unplugging 5+ times or restarting the car to connect CarPlay” after upgrading to iOS 18.4.

During a recent road trip in my Ford Mustang Mach-E, I experienced similar issues with CarPlay. On numerous occasions, I faced difficulties connecting wirelessly to CarPlay. The “Now Playing” widget also ceased functioning multiple times, and the volume level unpredictably varied between tracks. With over 1,000 miles on the road, these issues were quite frustrating.

It remains uncertain whether iOS 18.4.1 resolves all these problems. Apple’s release notes refer only to “a rare issue that prevents wireless CarPlay connection in certain vehicles.”

If you’ve encountered any CarPlay issues since updating to iOS 18.4 earlier this month, please share your experience in the comments regarding whether iOS 18.4.1 has resolved them.
