Mark Ruffalo has previously let out his views on the Israel Palestine conflict. He has earlier questioned Israel’s tactics and felt that they should be held up to standards similar to other nations. But he had to retract his latest statement against Israel’s actions and apologize. The actor had earlier felt that Israel’s actions amounted to ‘genocide’.

His initial statement had drawn a mixed reaction on social media. But he was forced to go back on his statement and apologize that his suggestion that Israel was committing genocide was not accurate. In his apology, he said it was disrespectful and inflammatory. It was being used to justify anti-Semitism in the US and abroad. He said that it was time to avoid any exaggeration.

Mark Ruffalo’s Tweet Against The Killing Of Children

Mark Ruffalo had earlier highlighted the death of 30 children in the random Israel bombing on civilian areas. He had called for sanctions on Israel similar to the one on the White regime in South Africa, which helped end apartheid.

He also appealed to President Biden to join other world leaders to immediately call for a ceasefire. He called for an end to the deadly, meaningless conflict happening in the Middle East.

But on May 24,  Mark Ruffalo decided to retract his statement and apologize for his post. It remains unclear what forced Ruffalo to retract and apologize.

The two weeks of heavy fighting had left hundreds dead, mostly on the Palestinian side as Israel resorted to a heavy bombardment of civilian areas in response to Hamas rocket attacks on Tel Aviv and other cities.

The cease-fire moderated by Egypt and agreed upon by the two sides on Friday has been held till now.

Other Celebrities Have Been Similarly Criticized In The Past

Twitter users were divided with some thanking Mark Ruffalo for his efforts to bring down the rhetoric on this sensitive subject. Others have mentioned that it appears part of efforts to silence and intimidate any efforts to condemn the continuing aggression by Israel.

Other celebrities had to similarly retract statements against Israel in the past. Dua Lipa has also come under attack and has been called anti-Semitic for her support for the Palestinians. She had responded by saying she rejected all forms of racism and stood in solidarity with all oppressed people. Celebrity models Bella and Gigi Hadid have been among the most vocal critics of the bombings. They have condemned those who spoke up for racial equality and yet chose to ignore the Palestinian oppression.
