Meta has introduced a new feature aimed at simplifying the transition from X to Threads. This beta option launches today, enabling users to “follow the same popular creators they’re following on X.”
Here are the steps provided by Meta for importing your X data into Threads:
- Launch X and select your profile.
- Navigate to Settings and privacy.
- Choose Your account.
- Select Download an archive of your data and wait up to 3 days for an email containing your information.
- Upon receiving the email, download and extract your data file. Locate the following.js file in the Data folder and upload it to Threads.net.
While the process isn’t particularly quick or seamless, it seems to be the only feasible way for Meta to offer this feature, given X’s API restrictions. Currently, this feature isn’t accessible to everyone, so you can check your Threads account via the web to see if it’s available for you.
One significant challenge in today’s divided social media environment is needing to recreate your social graph on every platform. Although it would have been ideal for Meta to have implemented this feature earlier, having it now is certainly better than not at all.
