Missed Out on Your 2021 Stimulus Check? IRS is Distributing ,400 Payments for Unclaimed Credits

Texans who have not yet received a stimulus payment from the Recovery Rebate Credit in 2021 might be in for an unexpected deposit.

If you haven’t received your $1,400 stimulus check from the federal government yet, it’s not too late for eligible individuals to meet the deadline.

Taxpayers may also miss out on income tax refunds from past years if they have not submitted their tax returns.

Here’s what you need to know about the deadline for claiming this credit.

As per the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), over a million taxpayers in the U.S. failed to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax filings.

This refundable credit was intended for individuals who did not receive one or more Economic Impact Payments (stimulus checks) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To receive any potential refunds owed, filing 2021 taxes is necessary.

The IRS states that individuals who did not file their taxes in 2021 can still become eligible for their stimulus payments. However, tax returns must be submitted by April 15, 2025, to claim the credit and any additional refunds that might be due.

To claim it, you simply need to file your 2021 taxes — no extra steps required. The funds will be sent automatically.

The IRS indicated that checks, up to a maximum of $1,400, will be issued either via paper check or via direct deposit into the bank account linked to a 2023 tax return. A separate notice will inform you of the payment.
