Apple TV+ has recently begun unveiling its summer schedule, featuring upcoming seasons of some of its most popular series. Additionally, Apple has revealed a brand new show about to launch—Smoke—crafted by the creative minds behind one of its most critically acclaimed series.
Introducing Smoke: A New Series from the Creators of Black Bird
Among the highly regarded lineup of Apple TV+ original series, Black Bird has consistently stood out as one of the best.
This 2022 limited series achieved a remarkable 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, along with numerous nominations and accolades at the Golden Globes and Emmy Awards.
The talented team behind Black Bird is now reuniting for a new crime drama, set to premiere soon on Apple TV+.
Smoke will debut on Friday, June 27 with the first two episodes, followed by new releases every week until August 8.
While Apple’s series description lacks detail, it is inspired by the Firebug podcast, which I found particularly intriguing:
For a decade, a serial arsonist wreaked havoc across Southern California, setting businesses ablaze in broad daylight. Four lives were taken. Ultimately, a novel manuscript led investigators to the unlikeliest of suspects.
Returning to helm Smoke is Black Bird’s creator, Dennis Lehane, alongside the same directing team. The series also stars the same lead actor, Taron Egerton, with Greg Kinnear in a supporting role.
The supporting cast is equally impressive, featuring Emmy Award nominees Jurnee Smollett and Anna Chlumsky, as well as Emmy winner John Leguizamo, among others.
For fans of Black Bird, Smoke has the potential to achieve similar heights of critical acclaim.
