Fortnite made its way back to the U.S. App Store last month after a five-year absence due to a legal battle between Epic Games and Apple. However, as of today, Fortnite is effectively unavailable on iPhones and iPads running the iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 beta.
Epic Games rolled out a new iOS version of Fortnite today, featuring a mobile-focused variant called Blitz Royale. Sadly, it also crashes immediately on the iOS 26 beta.
Gamers have been highlighting the problem on social media today, with uncertainty about whether it’s a bug or a deliberate action. The Fortnite Status account on X has yet to acknowledge the issue.
Incompatibility issues are expected with OS beta versions; however, these typically arise from existing app versions upon updating to the new OS. In this instance, the app worked well until the update, which caused a compatibility issue.
Before the update, Fortnite functioned properly on iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.
We hope Epic Games did not intentionally remove support for iOS 26, and that a resolution will be found soon. Currently, users can either downgrade from iOS 26 to iOS 18 or await an update for the Fortnite app.
Players need the latest app version since everyone must have access to the same version of the multiplayer game.
In the meantime, here’s some information on the new mobile-friendly Blitz Royale addition:
Blitz Royale is a 32-player Battle Royale mode featuring new gameplay each match and regular updates. The best part? You can secure a victory in five minutes or less — ideal for mobile play!
All players begin with a random Medallion or unique weapon on a compact map, meaning everyone has equal footing! Enhance your Blitz Level by eliminating rivals and surviving Storm circles. As you progress, acquire powerful weapons and boosts. Search for Golden Chests for more power-ups and Golden Supply Drops for additional Medallions 🥇
All power-ups in Fortnite Blitz Royale are referred to as “Boons.”
Join the blitz solo or team up with a squad of four. Blitz Royale will be accessible until July 15, with potential for a return in the future featuring updated gameplay, maps, and rewards.
Fortnite is available for iPhone and iPad in the U.S. App Store … provided that you have 4GB RAM and iOS 18, at least for the time being.
