Recently, Logitech unveiled a unique keyboard case for the iPad Air and iPad Pro called the Logitech Flip Folio. This innovative product caters to a market niche that has yet to be fully explored.
Overview
To start, it’s important to note that this keyboard does not utilize the smart connector, unlike other Logitech keyboards designed for the iPad. This distinction plays a crucial role in the product’s functionality.
In contrast to conventional iPad keyboards that merge both the keyboard and iPad into a single unit, the Logitech Flip Folio enables you to reposition the magnetic Bluetooth keyboard, set your iPad upright on a desk or surface, and begin typing.
Unfortunately, there’s no trackpad, which many users might consider essential for iPad usage. However, if you can overlook this detail, the concept indeed holds promise.
The Logitech Flip Folio consists of two components: a robust folio case and a magnetic Bluetooth keyboard. These parts fit together seamlessly and are reasonably lightweight. Additionally, the Bluetooth keyboard utilizes CR2016 batteries, providing up to two years of use under normal conditions without frequent recharging.
Verdict
I’ve had the opportunity to use the review unit for a couple of weeks, and I would classify it as a valuable addition if you are seeking an iPad keyboard that offers significant flexibility. Unlike Apple’s Magic Keyboard, which essentially confines your iPad and keyboard into a single, rigid setup, the Logitech Flip Folio permits a variety of creative uses.
While you can detach the Magic Keyboard, you lose typing functionality; the Flip Folio offers more versatility.
This keyboard setup is equipped with numerous magnets, enabling you to display your iPad in landscape mode while placing your phone nearby for enhanced productivity. The keyboard seamlessly pairs with up to three devices, letting you type on your phone as well.
One downside is its limited compatibility with iPad Pro models; it supports only the M4 version while excluding M1, M2, and even the 2018 or 2020 variants. It’s unclear why older iPads aren’t supported since it functions via Bluetooth, but that’s the current situation as articulated by Logitech.
Wrap up & pricing
Overall, I’m pleased that this product is on the market. Although it leans towards the pricier side, it is still approximately 50% less than Apple’s Magic Keyboard while offering a distinctly innovative experience.
The Logitech Flip Folio is priced at $159.99 for 11-inch iPad models and $179.99 for 13-inch versions. It is compatible with M1, M2, and M3 iPad Air models, as well as the M4 iPad Pro.
