Satechi Unveils New SSD Enclosure to Expand Mac Mini Storage Up to 8TB

Satechi has launched its latest SSD enclosure, the USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure, which allows you to expand your Mac’s storage by up to 8TB. It’s particularly designed to complement the M4 Mac mini. Currently, it’s available for $99 after a $20 discount.

The inspiration behind its design comes from the classic Apple USB SuperDrive, an external CD and DVD drive that is no longer in production…

Here’s what Satechi has shared about this product:

Utilizing USB4 technology for ultra-fast transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps (3840MB/s), this sleek enclosure draws inspiration from the Apple USB SuperDrive. It accommodates various SSD sizes—2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280—providing exceptional storage versatility and a maximum capacity of 8TB.

This is an ideal solution for professionals managing extensive video projects, high-resolution photo libraries, or large gaming collections, serving as a budget-friendly alternative to costly internal upgrades. With the ability to swap SSDs as necessary, users can ensure a scalable solution for any workflow.

Satechi aimed to create a slim design, which does introduce certain limitations. There isn’t sufficient space for double-sided SSDs or those with attached heat sinks. Additionally, SATA M.2 SSDs are not supported. However, most 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 cards should fit just fine.

The enclosure retails for $119.99, but DMN readers can use discount code LIMITED20 at checkout to save $20.

Prices for additional storage can vary from under $70 to approximately $600, depending on both physical dimensions and storage capacity. Compatible SSDs start from 1TB 2230 cards and go up to 8TB 2280 models.
