Sharon Stone, known for her outspokenness, used her appearance at the Torino Film Festival in Italy to call for political change and highlight the ongoing fight against violence toward women. While receiving the Stella della Mole lifetime achievement award, Stone, 66, reflected on the state of American politics and social issues.

Sharon Stone critiques American politics and advocates for global awareness

“We have to stop and think about who we choose for government,” Stone said, criticizing the current political climate in the U.S. She described the nation as being in its “adolescent phase,” marked by ignorance and arrogance, and compared its challenges to Italy’s historical experience with fascism. Her comments subtly critiqued President-elect Donald Trump, underscoring the need for informed, intentional political choices.

Stone emphasized that combating violence against women requires broader collaboration, urging men to take responsibility for holding their peers accountable. “We can’t continue to pretend that your friends are good men when they’re not,” she said, pointing out that the number one killer of women globally is men. Stone advocated for honesty and vigilance, urging good men to protect women by confronting harmful behaviors among their acquaintances.

Fellow actor Alec Baldwin also spoke at the festival, echoing Sharon Stone’s concerns. Baldwin criticized the American media landscape for leaving citizens under-informed about critical issues like climate change and global conflicts. He stressed the role of filmmaking in bridging this gap, stating, “This is one of the most important times in our history for us to make films that teach people what reality is.”

Stone and Baldwin’s remarks highlight the need for political reform, cultural accountability, and the power of storytelling to address global challenges and foster understanding.
