During the Disney investor meeting on April 3, Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson introduced a new live-action remake of Moana.

“We are honored to announce that we will be bringing Moana’s lovely narrative to the big screen in live-action! Maui altered my life (miss you grandfather) and I am pleased to join with Disney to communicate our narrative via the domain of song and dance, which is at the core of who we are as Polynesian people,” Dwayne Johnson tweeted, reports ‘Variety’. The 2016 animated film was a box office success for Disney, grossing over $680 million.

Dwayne Johnson Is Excited About The Movie

Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia will produce the new feature through their Seven Bucks Productions, while Beau Flynn will produce through Flynn Picture Co. Auliai Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the original movie, and Scott Sheldon of Flynn Film Co. are among the executive producers. Dana Ledoux Miller, a Samoan industry pioneer, and Jared Bush will also be involved in the project. “I am extremely flattered and overwhelmed with appreciation to bring the lovely narrative of ‘Moana’ to the big screen in live-action,” Johnson said in a statement.

“This narrative is my culture, and it represents the elegance and warrior might of our people.” I proudly carry this culture on my flesh and in my spirit, so this once-in-a-lifetime chance to reconnect with Maui, motivated by the mana and spirit of my late grandpa, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that I cherish. I want to thank my Disney partners for their tremendous dedication to this exceptional endeavor since there is no better world for us to honor our people’s narrative, passion, and purpose than through the domain of song and dance, which is at the heart of who we are as Polynesian people.”
