Americans who are suffering from high gas costs may be tempted to accept a social media post claiming more stimulus checks are on the way, but the claim is false.

According to a June 12 Facebook post, “President Biden confirmed(ed) everyone would receive their $1k gas payments this week!!” The article says, “You will collect the whole amount, which is $1k this week, as long as you do not owe the state anything!! The majority of you should have had it on by now. This applies to all 50 states!!!”

The item was identified as part of Facebook’s attempts to battle fake news and disinformation on the platform’s News Feed.

This is not the case. Gas stimulus checks are not being issued by the federal government.

A couple of measures have been presented to offer taxpayers with government rebates, but they were both introduced in March and have yet to get through congressional committees. Food and gas costs are rising, and there appears to be no end in sight, at least for the time being. There have been a few ideas to provide Americans with gas stimulus checks, but there have not been any real conversations on the subject so yet.

Food and gas costs are rising, and there appears to be no end in sight, at least for the time being. There have been a few ideas to provide Americans with gas stimulus checks, but there have not been any real conversations on the subject yet. According to Forbes Advisor, ten states have authorized tax rebate payments varying from $75 in Idado to almost $850 in Maine, and six more are contemplating similar measures. A gas tax break has already been implemented in other states.

Democrats in Congress have been attempting to get support for a measure that’d grant the Federal Trade Commission new authority to combat gas price gouging, but it is unclear whether the legislation will pass.
