Tap to Pay on iPhone Expands to Another Country

After a recent rollout of Tap to Pay on iPhone to additional European nations, Apple has now revealed that it will launch this feature in another country this year. As of today, users in New Zealand can utilize the feature that transforms an iPhone into a payment terminal.

Tap to Pay on iPhone now available in New Zealand

Apple confirmed the news on its website (as reported by MacRumors). In New Zealand, the initial platforms supporting Tap to Pay on iPhone include Adyen, ANZ Bank, Stripe, Windcave, and Worldline.

For those who are not aware, Tap to Pay allows merchants to process contactless payments through a compatible iOS app on an iPhone Xs or newer with the latest iOS version installed. During the checkout, the merchant simply needs to instruct the customer to hold their iPhone, Apple Watch, or any compatible NFC card close to the merchant’s iPhone to complete the transaction.

Much like any Apple Pay transaction, Tap to Pay securely operates using NFC technology, without requiring any additional hardware for contactless payments. In regions where this feature is available, developers can access an API in iOS 15.4 and newer versions to add Tap to Pay support.

Tap to Pay on iPhone accommodates contactless credit and debit cards from major payment networks, including American Express, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, and Visa.

Initially launched in the US in 2022, Tap to Pay on iPhone has since expanded globally to countries such as the UK, France, Taiwan, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Ukraine, Japan, Canada, Italy, and many more.
