The Apple Watch is an impressive wearable device, making it difficult for many users to consider switching to Android. However, Vivo has made a surprising claim regarding its upcoming foldable smartphone.
In a teaser shared on Weibo, Vivo asserts that the forthcoming X Fold 5 will be the first Android phone capable of supporting the Apple Watch. According to their translated statement, users will be able to answer calls, read messages, and sync health data from the Apple Watch to the Vivo X Fold 5.
This is certainly a bold assertion, to say the least.
The X Fold 5 has become the first Android phone that can connect to the Apple Watch! Your Apple Watch can display incoming calls and texts from the X Fold 5, and record health data that can be synchronized to the Vivo health app.
Is this a genuine, native connection? It’s tough to determine, but it appears unlikely since Apple has historically not allowed Android devices to pair with its smartwatch.
It seems more plausible that Vivo is leveraging the iOS and macOS integrations that have been introduced in recent releases from other Chinese manufacturers like Oppo. Android Authority references two additional posts where Vivo hints at “direct” iCloud integration and the capability to use the X Fold 5 as an extended display for a Mac.
Considering that, it’s hard to fathom that Vivo is genuinely making the Apple Watch fully compatible with an Android device. More likely, they’re implementing some kind of app workaround to create a connection, possibly by channeling everything through an iPhone or another Apple product.
The Vivo X Fold 5 is on the way, and aside from these promises of Apple integration, it is expected to be a fascinating foldable device, with rumors suggesting high-end specifications and potential dust resistance features.
