watchOS 12 Could Introduce Apple Intelligence and a Fresh Interface

While there has been a buzz surrounding iOS 19, details regarding watchOS 12 have been relatively scarce. Nonetheless, it appears that Apple has ambitious plans for the upcoming iteration of its smartwatch operating system. A recent report indicates that Apple is looking to incorporate Apple Intelligence features and a revamped user interface into watchOS.

Unconfirmed rumors suggest watchOS 12 will feature Apple Intelligence and a UI makeover

Apple is anticipated to launch a fresh interface inspired by visionOS with iOS 19, complete with more depth, shadows, and glass-like aesthetics. According to The Verifier, elements of this visionOS design will also find their way into watchOS 12. However, this update for the smartwatch will reportedly be more subtle, focusing on enhancing menus, buttons, and icons.

The interface of watchOS was overhauled in 2023 with the introduction of watchOS 10, making it likely that this year’s upgrade will not be excessively significant, assuming the rumors hold true. Still, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently noted that Apple aims to achieve greater uniformity across all its operating systems, making the inclusion of visionOS-style elements a plausible addition.

Additionally, the report reveals that Apple intends to integrate certain Apple Intelligence features into watchOS 12. This could include a new way to view notification summaries at a glance, the option to create Genmoji directly on the watch, and an updated Siri experience.

The specifics of how Apple would implement these features remain uncertain, particularly since Apple Intelligence currently requires 8GB of RAM. However, The Verifier speculates that the next-generation Apple Watch Ultra may come equipped with a faster processor, suggesting that these AI functionalities could be exclusive to the new models expected later this year.

It is important to consider that The Verifier has a mixed reputation when it comes to accuracy, so these rumors should be approached with caution. The site previously predicted that iOS would adopt a visionOS-style interface, initially claiming it would happen with iOS 18, not iOS 19. They now report that this interface shift was postponed due to the integration of Apple Intelligence.

Apple is set to unveil watchOS 12 alongside iOS 19 during WWDC 2025 in June.
