Meta is currently developing a new privacy feature for WhatsApp that will allow users to enhance the protection of their chats. This feature aims to give users more control over their sensitive messages.
WhatsApp introducing enhanced privacy feature for individual and group chats
As noted by WABetaInfo, this new privacy feature is presently hidden within the latest WhatsApp beta version for iOS available on TestFlight. The Advanced Chat Privacy feature adds an extra layer of privacy and security, making it more difficult for others to share chat content.
For example, chats with advanced privacy activated cannot be exported, and media will not be automatically stored in the device’s photo library. Additionally, Meta AI functionalities are entirely disabled in chats where advanced privacy is enabled. Reports indicate that this feature is being designed for both one-on-one and group conversations.
While WhatsApp already offers disappearing messages, this new option is intended to provide users with even finer control over managing sensitive messages.
Once released, the advanced privacy setting will be optional and can be adjusted on a per-chat basis. Users who activate this feature will notify other participants in the conversation.
Recently, WhatsApp rolled out a significant update for its iOS app, allowing users to designate it as their default calling and messaging app on iPhones. This option is accessible to anyone running iOS 18.2 or newer. WhatsApp is available for free on the App Store, so be sure to update to the latest version to access these new features.
