Following its debut on Android in September, YouTube Music’s AI-driven “Ask Music” radio feature is now accessible on both the iPhone and iPad.
Once the feature is available, you’ll find an “Ask for music” shelf positioned near the top of your Home tab’s feed. This section displays a carousel containing 10 suggested prompts, and tapping on any of them will instantly create a personalized radio station.
There’s also an option for “Ask any way you like,” featuring a voice input shortcut that allows you to specify your own prompt, detailing a mood, activity, or listening experience. The examples provided by YouTube tend to be concise, but longer descriptions are also effective.
After you submit a request, YouTube Music takes a short moment to curate the AI-generated radio, utilizing the currently active station card. You’ll be presented with the first three tracks, equipped with autoplay functionality and an option to “Add to library” for future listening. Additionally, YTM provides a brief and entertaining description.
This feature complements the existing Music Tuner experience, which allows you to select artists and specify preferences such as artist variety, music discovery, and filters. Access this from the Library tab > New FAB (floating action button) > Radio.
To utilize Ask Music, a YouTube Music or Music Premium subscription is necessary. As of December, it’s rolled out in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. Google has hinted at expanding to more regions, and iOS support has just launched (version 8.10+).
