Real Madrid has been knocked off the prestigious Copa Del Rey. This came with their face-off against Alcoyano, a Spanish side of their-tier. Zidane let a couple of notable names rest till the final minutes of the game. But he still began with international players. These players include Isco, Casemiro, Eder Militão, Marcelo, Lucas Vazquez, Vinícius, Federico Valverde, etc. Militão gave a lead at the post behind with Marcelo cross. This helped Real Madrid take over the first half of the game.
But in the second half, José Solbes fought back for Alcoyano, pushing the limits of the match. This resulted in a push to the extra time frame. Eden Hazard, along with Karim Benzema, were brought in together by Zinedine. For a moment, Real Madrid held the mirage of a win to break the tie. It was also almost sure due to Ramon Lopez receiving the red card during the second half. By the end, Casanova, from Alcoyano, hit a near-slip goal. This resulted in a hit for the opposing team, embarrassing the now legendary ensemble.
Reaction To Real Madrid’s Loss
Zinedine Zidane is a Club legend. He has won the Champions League three times, being a manager. Although, at this point, he is under immense pressure. Atletico Madrid leads the score with two matches in their hands. Zidane’s Real Madrid stands behind with over points in the La Liga. This has put Zidane’s reputation under a microscopic question.
The legend told the media that he would “take responsibility” for what happened in the game. He further added that whatever would happen, no matter what, “will happen.” The defeat is not only disappointing because of the coach’s reputation. Real Madrid has won the prestigious Copa Del Rey nineteen times. But for the past seven years, they haven’t put their hands on the cup. Ironically, since 1993, it has won it only twice.
