There are stimulus payments you can hope for if you live in these two states. Even as the federal government continues to dispatch the third stimulus check, some states have begun issuing their stimulus check or plan to issue, to complement the federal one.

Termed the California Comeback Plan, the Governor of the golden state, Gavin Newsom has put forward his plans for $600 to residents with earnings below $75,000 but more than $30,000. There are also plans for $500 more for families with children.

The plans have not been passed yet. But when passed it could dip into the surplus budget and provide much-needed relief to around 11M Californians. They account for more than three-quarters of the tax filers (78%) in the state. Those earning below $30,000 have already received a direct stimulus check of $600 in the spring.

Maryland has got into the act too and has given supplemental checks to around 400,000 of its residents. This payment was part of the RELIEF Act, state legislation approved in February to give stimulus checks to residents.

The state has already paid $300 to residents who have filed for the EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit). A further $500 has been sent to families having children. The money was sent based on several income limits.

For individuals with no children the limit was $15,820, it was $41,756 for individuals with 1 child, for 2 children the upper limit was $47,440, while for individuals with 3 or more children, the limit was $50,954. The corresponding figures for couples are $21,710,$47,646,$53,330, and $56,844.

Federal Nod Could Convince Other States To Send A  Stimulus Check

Several states appear to be moving the other way and Missouri, Tennessee, and Alabama are cutting down on supplemental federal benefits for the unemployed.

But several states could use federal aid to give state aid to their residents. The Treasury Dept. has given the green signal for use of federal aids for such purposes. But California has its surplus of $76 billion. The surplus amount is to be returned to its residents if it causes a certain limit.

The extended deadline for filing the 2020 tax returns passed on May 17. But you can still file for a further extension when you are ready with your taxes. You might be eligible for more under revised filing even if you have received your third stimulus check. So you could be in for a plus-up stimulus payment.
