Several states are taking matters into their own hands because the federal government is not moving toward another round of stimulus check payments. In an effort to alleviate rising costs like housing, gas, and food, they are making direct payments to residents. The $1,500 stimulus checks are intended to assist financially struggling Americans.

One of the states that has already started disbursing funds from its $9.5 billion Middle Class Tax Refund program is California. Depending on their income and whether they claimed a dependent, payments range from $200 to $700 for all other individuals and $400 to $1,050 for couples filing jointly. Up to 23 million people in California will receive a total of 18 million payments.

Stimulus Check Updates For States 2023

In 2022, Colorado has also distributed stimulus check of up to $1,500 to joint filers and up to $750 to single filers. Those who requested a six-month extension will likely not receive their checks until late January, whereas those who filed their 2021 taxes on time should have already received them.

The first round of rebates was distributed in March 2022, and the second round was distributed in September 2022. As state residents file their tax returns through 2023, funds will continue to be processed. Depending on when the state’s taxation department received their 2021 tax return, eligible residents will receive $300 for single filers and $600 for joint filers.

Tax rebates are being distributed as refunds in New Jersey. A rebate of $1,500 will be given to homeowners with incomes up to $150,000, while a rebate of $1,000 will be given to homeowners with incomes between $150,000 and $250,000.

Renters can also get a $450 rebate as long as their income is under $150,000. South Carolina is offering rebates of up to $800, with payments expected to be made in the first few months of the year and almost being made available by May. Residents who choose to file their tax returns on or before the February 15 disaster relief extension will receive their rebates in March 2023, despite the fact that the majority went out prior to December 31, 2022.
