In his recent reflection on what the sequel of Twister could be, Daveed Diggs stated that he would not be getting into the reasons why the sequel was never made- mostly because he wouldn’t be able to remember things exactly.

Nevertheless, Daveed Diggs talked about how there were talks and opportunities of such an event taking place, and the reason it didn’t happen was something quite shady. He reaffirmed that this was the same time of shady behavior which they would be often seen in the industry.

The comments of the actor/musician came almost a couple of years after Helen Hunt, the original movie star stated during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that she did try to get a sequel made with herself, Diggs, and Rafael Casal, the co-writer of Blindspotting penning the script.

Daveed Diggs Believes A Twister Sequel Could Have Been Made

According to Hunt who was about to direct it as well, this movie would be featuring all Brown and Black storm chasers, but there were certain elements in the industry that prevented it from being made. The 59-year-old actress lamented how hard it was to get a meeting, and this was June 2020, when everyone was about diversity. She thought that the movie would have been quite cool. She added that there would be an HBCU- historically Black college and university where she wanted it to take place, along with a rocket science club. In this particular movie, they would be shooting rockets into the tornado.

The previous December saw Universal Pictures announce that a follow-up film titled Twisters was set for a theatrical release on 19th July 2024. The original movie, released in 1996, starred Hunt and Late Bill Paxton as two storm scientists that were trying to collect data on a series of powerful tornadoes. The movie also starred Daveed Diggs and was a giant financial success- as it earned over $494 million.
