The majority of honorary award recipients haven’t competed for an Oscar. He also acknowledged Gene Wilder three times in his remarks, which had the audience in fits of laughter.

The 96-year-old is one of a select group of EGOT-winners who started out writing for Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows,” then over the following 70 years went on to act, write, direct, produce for cinema, television, and Broadway, as well as publish books, including a recent biography.

Littleton has been operating behind the scenes with renowned filmmakers for over five decades, though his name may not be as well-known as those of the superstars being recognized alongside him. The 81-year-old native of Oklahoma edited movies including “Body Heat,” “The Big Chill,” “Swimming to Cambodia,” and “The Manchurian Candidate” regularly with both Lawrence Kasdan and Jonathan Demme. 

The only movie she edited for Steven Spielberg, “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” earned her her first and only Oscar nomination. She is also wed to former Academy President and director of photography John Bailey.

The Angela Bassett honorary awards are presented “to recognize extraordinary distinguished status in lifetime achievement, extraordinary contributions to the state of the motion picture arts and sciences, or to recognize outstanding dedication to the Academy.”

Satter, meanwhile, has been in charge of the renowned artist programs at the Sundance Institute for more than 40 years, assisting filmmakers from Paul Thomas Anderson to Ryan Coogler as they launch their careers. On November 18, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, the Governors Awards will take place.
