Pop star Mariah Carey has admitted that she’s always been a diva.

“As a kid, I was always a diva, and everybody in my family knows that,” she told People magazine. “I would perform for my family and all their friends, doing impressions — I loved to do Cher and Diana Ross.”

“I’m like, ‘I may be a lot of things, but I don’t lie.’ So the fact is that, yes, it may be an element of narcissism, because you have to love yourself if you’re going to sing about loving yourself. And it probably could be viewed as narcissism when you want everything to be exactly the way you want it to be. But honestly . . . there’s nothing wrong with that!”

Mariah Carey Opens Up In Recent Interview

“The reason why they call me a diva is that I am a diva,” Carey told The Daily Mail on Monday. “I love to perform and I love to sing. And I’m the center of attention all the time. My family knows that about me and my friends know that about me, so it doesn’t really bother any of us too much.”

Mariah Carey says she’s always been a diva.

“I don’t know where this idea came from, that I was never a diva,” Carey told Page Six in an interview published on Nov. 25th. “I mean, I just can’t help it! You can ask anyone who knows me, my mom and my sisters — I have always been a performer and loved being onstage, even when I was growing up in Long Island as MC Harpo [her stage name].”

Mariah Carey said she enjoys singing about loving herself because she feels proud of her accomplishments. “Honestly . . . there’s nothing wrong with that! And I think that if people want to go out and do something great for themselves then they should feel good about doing so and celebrate their accomplishments.”
