TikTok Adds Election Integrity Resources, New Efforts to Restrict Election Misinformation

There is less than a week until the day of the US elections, TikTok that is an unwitting political entity in itself has announced today its recent election honesty measurements to assist make sure that the users are not being fed with manipulation or misinformation by groups that are politically motivated heading to the poll.

In some regards, TikTok’s efforts will have less influence. As per reports, about a third of users of TikTok in the US that are the age of 14 or less. So, most users maybe can not vote either way. As you can see in the screenshots above, users can also access more contact data for official election resources, as TikTok will give a listing as well of frequently asked questions and answers from the National Association of Secretaries of State to answer some major questions and concerns or query.

Additionally, TikTok is working also with the Associated Press to give access to the Ap’s responsive map in the user’s newsfeed. It will show live outcomes for the US presidential race, governor, and Congress too.

Also, TikTok will work on reducing the discoverability of content that claims victory prematurely with the help of fact-checkers, in any race before the final results are approved by the Associated Press.

“Out of an abundance of caution, if claims can’t be verified or fact-checking is inconclusive, we’ll limit distribution of the content. We’ll also add a banner pointing viewers to our election guide on content with unverifiable claims about voting, premature declarations of victory, or attempts to dissuade people from voting by exploiting COVID-19 as a voter suppression tactic.”

As stated above, TikTok might not have as much impact in this regard, due to the younger base of the audience, yet the reach can still give a big role in making sure that all the information are accurate and timely and being disseminated to the public in the right way.

The different efforts of all social media platforms in combination are made to encourage a lot of people to vote in the polls and to give their opinions. Also, these further features will assist in limiting the spread of distributing false reports or misinformation about the polls or the voting process.
