Dove Cameron Admits She Tried Out for Ariana Grande’s Glinda Part in the ‘Wicked’ Film

Despite not being cast in the movie Wicked’s Glinda, Dove Cameron is very thrilled to watch the film.

The 27-year-old multihyphenate confirmed in a statement that she went for the part in Jon Chu’s two flicks during the casting process at a Schmigadoon! Second season event in North Hollywood. Naturally, fellow former child television star and pop icon Ariana Grande now fills the position. It has been a drawn-out procedure for everyone who did apply, as Dove Cameron readily acknowledged.

Dove Cameron On Ariana Grande As Glinda In The Upcoming Wicked Movie

Dove Cameron, who co-stars in Schmigadoon! with Kristen Chenoweth as the first Glinda, noted that while she wasn’t chosen, she is very pleased with Ariana Grande, 29, whom she referred to as “a living idol.” She further continued that Ariana was one of her truest friends and they had met as young artists at the beginning of their careers. She adds that she is proud of the entire cast and is quite eager to watch the movie as an admirer.

Dove Cameron and Grande have worked together in the past since they both began the industry at a young age. From 2013-2017, Cameron starred on Disney’s Maddie and Liv, while from 2010-2014, Grande appeared on Nick TV’s Victorious as Cat. Also, the two shared a stage in Hairspray! Back in 2019, Dove Cameron had expressed her desire to play Glinda saying that playing the character was her dream role which she has been hoping for since the age of seven.

The award-winning musical Wicked is built on Gregory Maguire’s novel from 1995, which will have certain differences from its theatrical production and past incarnations. As was previously reported, filmmaker Chu has vowed to remain loyal to the narrative’s core and said in April last year that he intends to split the story into two independent movies.
